How ADHD Medication Works
While medication isn’t a cure for ADHD, it can be life-changing for many people. It helpsimprove symptoms like:
-
Difficulty focusing
-
Emotional overwhelm
-
Restlessness or impulsivity
-
Low motivation and fatigue
-
Mood instability
ADHD medications work by increasing levels of key brain chemicals like dopamine and
noradrenaline, improving communication between brain cells and helping your mind
feel calmer, more focused, and more manageable.

At Bright Star, we can prescribe both stimulant and non-stimulant medications, depending on
your symptoms, lifestyle, and health history. These may include:
● Methylphenidate
● Lisdexamfetamine
● Dexamfetamine
● Atomoxetine
Terri will take time to walk you through all the options, explain the potential benefits and side
effects, and make sure you feel informed and confident in your choices.
What’s Included in Our ADHD Medication Service
If you’ve been diagnosed at Bright Star, your follow-up medication appointments are £120
each. Most clients will need 3–4 appointments during the titration period, as we fine-tune the
right dose and medication.
Each session includes:
● A tailored medication plan based on your symptoms and goals
● Prescription writing (where appropriate)
● Letters to your GP
● A 2-week follow-up phone review
● Ongoing adjustments as needed
● Annual reviews for safe long-term prescribing
If you’ve been diagnosed elsewhere, your initial medication consultation with Terri is £225 (to
allow time to review your report), and follow-ups are £120.
Shared Care With The NHS
ADHD medication can be expensive privately, which is why we aim to support you in
transitioning to NHS prescriptions once your treatment is stable.
We do this by:
● Providing a detailed clinical report
● Setting up a Shared Care Agreement with your GP
● Ensuring your diagnosis and treatment are fully in line with NICE guidelines
● Helping you access ongoing prescriptions through the NHS at standard prices
This approach ensures your care remains safe, consistent, and more affordable long-term.
